QUESTIONS &
ANSWERS

Short answers to the usual pre-signup questions.

01 I forgot my password or lost the 12 words - what do I do?

Your password is not stored, it is reproduced: it is derived deterministically from the seed phrase, locally. If you have the phrase, access is restored on any device in a minute (the «Recovery» tab on the login page). If you lose both the password and the phrase, no one can restore access. The server cannot read your messages - it only holds encrypted text. That is the point of zero knowledge.

02 Can the server or an admin read my messages?

They can't. Text, photos and files are encrypted in your browser before sending - the server only stores base64 ciphertext. Your password and private key are never sent to the server; the encrypted private key lives in your browser.

03 Do I have to memorize the 12 words?

No. The phrase is shown once after registration - then your identity lives in your browser's IndexedDB, and logging in only needs the password. You only need the phrase when switching devices, after clearing browser data, or to recover your password.

04 How do I find someone - do I need their email or phone number?

You only need their nickname - accounts have no email or phone number, the nickname is the address. The other person creates an account, checks their nickname in Settings and shares it with you, and you type it in «New chat». Spam and «finding someone by number» are simply impossible here.

05 How secure are files and photos in chat?

A file is encrypted in full on your device (a random 256-bit key per file) - only ciphertext goes over the network, and the server cannot decrypt it. The current upload limit is 15 MB per file. Aborted or unfinished uploads are automatically deleted on the server.

06 Who is this messenger for?

For anyone who wants to keep their private life private - people who don't want their personal messages read, profiled, or sold to third parties. And for anyone who needs to transfer files with confidential information (legal, banking, or medical).
